Ms. O’Carroll wrote about LinkedIn: “When setting up my case, Meta agreed to end my personal data for direct marketing purposes. On non-legalese, this means that I will no longer be displayed on Facebook.

“I think this is a victory not only for me, but for every citizen in the UK and the EU, since he paves the way for the right to objection to use the surveillance to move on the Internet.

“I welcome the ICO for their rational and fundamental application of the law in their intervention in my case and for public confirmation that they support other British citizens who want to exercise their right to objection in the context of online -targeted advertisements.”

Meta said it was “pleased to pull a line under this long -term housing”.

A spokesman said: “We generally do not agree to Ms. O’Carroll’s requirements. No business can be prescribed to give away your services free of charge.

“We take our British GDPR obligations seriously and provide users robust settings and tools to control their data and advertising preferences.

“Facebook and Instagram cost the construction and maintenance of significant amount of money, and these services are free for British consumers due to personalized advertising.

“How many internet services do we examine the opportunity to offer people in Great Britain a subscription and will pass on more information in due course.”

Meta already offers users in the EU an advertising-free subscription option.
